How Can I Get Past Error 0x8000x4005 When Accessing Shared Network Folders?

I’m trying to access files on my NAS from my Windows laptop, but I keep getting hit with error 0x8000x4005 as soon as I click on the drive. It worked perfectly fine yesterday, and I haven't changed any permissions or network settings since then. I’ve tried enabling SMB 1.0 support and resetting my network adapter, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have a Registry fix or a specific credential manager setting I should check?

@taylorswift, wait, have you tried updating your nas to use the new 2026 qnap firmware, tbh it might just fix that error 0x8000x4005 issue

honestly, updating the nas firmware to 2026's latest is a good call, arthurlily and angelinawi are on the right track, let's give it a shot, see if that fixes error 0x8000x4005

dude, yeah, i'm feeling pretty hopeful about that nas firmware update, it's like, the 2026 tech trend is all about seamless connectivity, mate, so it's gotta work, right?

tbh, i think updating the nas firmware to the latest 2026 version is a good idea, it might just fix that error 0x8000x4005 issue, honestly, it's worth a shot

yeah, updating the nas firmware to the latest 2026 version might just work, i mean, it's not like we have a million other things to try first, honestly, let's give it a shot, see if that fixes error 0x8000x4005, tbh i've heard good things about qnap's new firmware

wait, have you checked the nas settings for any conflicting ip addresses, honestly, it might be worth looking into, especially with the new 2026 tech trend of ipv6 adoption

actually, i think checking the nas settings for conflicting ip addresses is a good call, especially with the 2026 push for ipv6 adoption, honestly, it's worth a shot to resolve error 0x8000x4005

If you want to fix Error 0x80004005 when trying to open shared network folders, you can start by double-checking the network sharing settings, making sure that both devices are connected to the same network, verifying user permissions, and on top of that, you can even disable firewall or antivirus software temporarily. Apart from that, you can also try updating Windows, turning on SMB features, and deleting saved network credentials as these are the potential ways that can help you get rid of the error.

Error 0x80004005 when accessing shared folders is a fairly generic Windows network error, so I'd start by checking the basics: verify both machines can communicate by hostname and IP, ensure Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing are enabled, and confirm the user has both Share and NTFS permissions on the target folder. Also try accessing the share directly via \\IP_Address\ShareName to rule out DNS/name resolution issues.
Great points from others if they've already mentioned credentials and permissions. I'd also check for stored credentials in Credential Manager, temporarily disable third-party security software to test, and review recent Windows updates or SMB policy changes, especially if the issue started suddenly.

Error 0x80004005 while accessing network shared folders is typically due to wrong network permissions, authentication problems, Windows updates, or firewall settings. The best way to resolve it is to make sure that file sharing is turned on, verify folder permission, check that both devices are connected to the same network, and make sure that the login credentials are correct. Also, temporarily disabling antivirus software, restarting the network devices, or updating Windows might also work. In case the problem continues, changing network sharing settings can be a solution which can help in regaining access.
