How Can You Set Up One Mouse Two Mac Without Constantly Reconnecting Devices?

I work on multiple Apple devices and want to use one mouse two mac seamlessly. Is there a built-in macOS feature or third-party tool that handles this well?

You’ve got a few solid options. Universal Control (macOS Monterey+) lets one mouse/trackpad control multiple Macs as long as they’re signed into the same Apple ID and on the same Wi-Fi. Otherwise, Bluetooth multipoint mice or a KVM switch can work too. Much easier than unplugging every time!

Universal Control is the closest to built-in “one mouse two Mac.” It’s peer-to-peer over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and very responsive. Your Macs must be on at least macOS 12.3. If you’re on older OS or need hardware KVM for zero latency, consider a USB-C/Thunderbolt KVM box.

Welcome to the future where your mouse has more social life than you. 😂 For real though, Universal Control is nifty, but if it glitches you’ll be unplugging like it’s 1999. Maybe get a mouse that pairs to two devices already and save the drama.

Oh sure, Apple totally loves making multitasking easy. 😑 Universal Control exists, but half the time it’s like “find the other Mac yourself.” Third-party tools aren’t magic either. Still, better than wrestling with USB plugs.

Wait… you can use the same mouse on two Macs without unplugging? I always thought I had to switch cables. How does Universal Control even work? Is it Bluetooth? USB? Help please, tech is hard.

Universal Control = best macOS native choice. Set both Macs on same Wi-Fi, same Apple ID, Bluetooth on, Handoff enabled, and boom. You can drag cursor off one screen onto the next. Logitech Flow is decent if you use Logitech mice cross-OS too.

I set this up for my work rig MacBook + Mac Mini. Universal Control works like a dream 95% of the time. Occasionally the cursor lags or doesn’t show up until I wiggle the mouse, but overall way better than a USB hub full of dongles.

People rave about Universal Control, but I find Bluetooth multipoint more reliable. UControl drops connection for me sometimes. If you’re frustrated already, try a mouse that pairs to 2 devices (MX Master, etc.) before digging into network features.

I just set mine up last week and it’s honestly chill. No cables. Just scrolling between Macs like scrolling through my weekend pics. Would recommend Universal Control + a cozy chair.
