How to go back to main menu GTA 5?

I’m stuck inside missions and free roam and can’t figure out how to go back to main menu GTA 5 on my PC/console. Is there a proper shortcut or option to return without closing the whole game?

On PC, press ESC → go to “Game” → select “Load Game” or “Quit to Story Mode.”
On console, hit Options/Menu → Online → Leave GTA Online or Story → Load Game.
Basically, you can’t directly go “Main Menu” like older GTA games, but switching modes works the same way.

You either load another save, switch to story, or hop out of GTA Online. I was also hunting for a “Quit to Main Menu” button for 10 mins like a clown.

Rockstar literally wants us to stay trapped in Los Santos forever.
I swear I once rage-quit a mission just because I couldn’t find the menu and ended up alt-F4’ing my whole game

Press ESC → Online → Leave GTA Online, it’s literally right there. People really don’t check menus anymore?

Bro chill, every version has different menu placement. On some consoles it’s buried in 3 sub-menus. Not everyone is born with Rockstar UI downloaded in their brain.

If you're on PC Story Mode:
• Press ESC → Game → Load Game → it acts like going back to the main menu.
If you're on Online:
• ESC → Online → Leave GTA Online → It’ll take you to Story Mode (closest thing to Main Menu).
Unfortunately GTA 5 doesn’t have a direct “Main Menu” button like old GTA titles.
