How to indent in excel?

To indent text in Excel cells, you can use the Increase Indent button, which is usually found in the Alignment group of the Home tab. Simply select the cell or cells you want to indent, go to the Home tab, and click on the Increase Indent button, which looks like a few lines indented to the right. You can also use the Decrease Indent button to remove indentation if needed. Alternatively, you can also use the keyboard shortcut Alt + H and then 6 to increase the indent, and Alt + H and then 5 to decrease it, this way you can easily adjust the indent level as per your requirement.

To indent text in Microsoft Excel, use these quick methods:

Toolbar method: Select the cell → go to Home tab → click Increase Indent (right arrow icon).
Keyboard shortcut: Press Alt + H + 6 (increase indent) or Alt + H + 5 (decrease indent).
Format cells: Right-click → Format Cells → Alignment tab → adjust Indent level manually.

Text ends up shifted to the right because someone increases the indent. The selection is made first, then the home tab is accessed, where the alignment group shows Increase Indent - clicking it pushes content inward. Repeating the action makes it go deeper; at the same time, Decrease Indent pulls things back. For those who prefer speed, pressing Alt + H + 6 works well on Windows. An alternative path includes right-clicking, picking Format Cells, going to alignment, and setting the exact number for fine-tuning.
