How to restore iPhone from backup

I recently reset my device and now want my data back. I have backups available but I’m unsure how to proceed. What is the correct way to restore iPhone from backup without losing anything?
 
To restore an iPhone from backup (short):
  1. Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Erase All Content
  2. Restart and choose Restore from iCloud Backup
  3. Sign in with your Apple ID and select a backup
Or connect to PC/Mac and use iTunes / Finder → Restore Backup.
