My MacBook keeps making notification sounds and I want to turn them off. How can I disable the ringer or alerts easily?

I found the solution to turning off the ringer on my MacBook by going to System Preferences, then Sound, and unchecking the box next to 'Play a sound when a message is received'. Also, I had to disable notifications for the Messages app in System Preferences under Notifications & Focus. This completely silenced the sound and only shows a notification icon in the corner of the screen.

Oh yeah that can get annoying 😅 just click the control center on the top right and turn on Do Not Disturb, or go to System Settings > Notifications and mute them from there

To turn off the ringer on a MacBook, click the Control Center icon in the menu bar and enable Do Not Disturb or Focus mode. This silences incoming notifications, calls, and alerts. You can also adjust notification settings to prevent sounds from specific apps and services.

If your MacBook rings during calls or notifications, open System Settings and select Focus. Turn on Do Not Disturb to mute incoming alerts and sounds. This setting helps reduce interruptions while working, studying, or attending meetings without disabling your device completely.

MacBooks do not have a traditional phone ringer, but notification sounds can be disabled. Open System Settings, choose Notifications, and adjust sound preferences. You can also activate Do Not Disturb to stop alerts, calls, and message notifications from making noise on your device.

To silence ringing sounds on a MacBook, access System Settings and navigate to Focus settings. Enable Do Not Disturb or customize a Focus profile to block calls and notifications. This prevents alert sounds while still allowing you to use your MacBook normally throughout the day.

When a MacBook rings because of FaceTime calls, notifications, or linked iPhone calls, you can mute it through System Settings. Turn on Do Not Disturb or disable notification sounds for specific apps. These settings help keep your MacBook quiet without affecting essential system functions.

To turn the ringer off on a MacBook, click the Control Center in the menu bar and enable Do Not Disturb or Focus mode. You can also go to System Settings > Sound and lower the alert volume or disable notification sounds to silence incoming alerts and calls.

If your MacBook is vibrating when you receive a call from your iPhone, you can stop this behavior by opening the FaceTime app, going to FaceTime > Settings, and disabling Calls from iPhone. If the ringtone is from a particular app, you can also visit System Settings > Notifications and change the sounds of apps. This will prevent unwanted ringing from occurring on the MacBook.
