Thinking about trading my original Steam Deck does the Steam Deck 2 actually feel like a big upgrade (battery, screen, performance)? Would love real-world comparisons and whether it’s worth selling the old one.
I got an OLED Steam Deck last year and TBH the screen itself was like putting down your glasses for the first time in months. If SD2 is "more of that," I will take it into consideration, but only if it sorts out the battery+heat combo. Also, will Steam have a problem judging me for buying an upgrade on my Steam library now?
Guess Valve is still not even selling a Deck 2 now? I'm getting all of these rumors and leaks and lots of hopeful forum posts. My perfectly fine Deck is not vaporware.
Not selling your OG, until there is a spec drop from Valve with benchmarks. long answer: is SD2 finally making use of a new APU/architecture (Zen4/Zen5 or whatever) if so, that would not only result in real CPU/GPUs , but also makes sure efficiency is better, hence longer battery more fan noise. But until Valve says otherwise, it's all just rumors.
I'd sell if you want cash now OG Decks still money decently. But if you want to play around with, keep it. You can dual-boot with it, mod it, use it as a streaming box etc. Also remember Valve published an OLED model which improved the screen and some behavior of battery (not entire new generation tho).
OGs Creaking Deck histological catadiopter with drift stick. I for one am gonna wait for a million+ performance combo before I change. But for those who want but need something snappier but quieter at this time, there are a couple of Windows-based competitors that are offering higher raw power already, albeit with different tradeoffs.
