NFL reddit streams legal?

I’ve been seeing a bunch of “NFL Reddit streams” links are those actually legal to use, or could I get into trouble? Curious about the rules and real risks.

Oh boy, the classic “free game” temptation. Short answer from a guy who skipped law school: it feels illegal. it probably is. If someone’s rebroadcasting the game without permission, that’s not exactly kosher. Also karma points decline if the NFL finds out. 🏈😅

No formal legal advice but here are some specifics: Broadcasters and rights-holders are entitled under the U.S. copyright law to exclusive rights of public performances of games. There is also the Protect Lawful streaming act that increased the criminal responsibility in some unlicensed streaming. There are actual legal regulations of the memes, yes. (Wanting sources I can drop a few.)

Lol, Lynn, you have made the statute sound moist. My wallet cries all the time meanwhile. I have used sketchy streams having no one knocking and still I got a virus once and my phone had suggested me fantasy teams to play with my ex. Not worth it. 😬🍕

Two more useful items I would be concerned about on top of will the copyright police come after me: 1) sketch streams = popups, malware, sketchy trackers, phishing. 2) connections tend to alter during the game; buffering is the vibrations. Clicking on something that requests an “authentication” that resembles a PayPal page should be avoided. (Not legal advice, just trauma.)

In my time we stood in a queue at the bar. Children are now after shoddy connections. The truth of the matter: web pages and platforms that host unlawful sports video broadcasting are occasionally seized and their domains are removed. To install a stream and have it disappear in the 4th quarter, that would take 20 minutes. In addition to that, moderators and platforms (including Reddit) are tightening their grip on push-link subreddits. Is almost like whack a mole. 😓

Consequences vary. The vast majority of users are likely to have low risk of being criminally charged enforcement usually focuses on stream hosts and stream operators, rather than on casual viewers but there are civil actions and enforcement measures brought against the operators and in some cases even sites are shut down, so the ecosystem is not free. Besides, rights holders are entitled to demand identifying information by the ISPs through a number of processes. So "unlikely to be hauled off" is not equivalent to 100 percent.

TL;DR free stream = immediate excitement, possible lawsuit and malware and game blackout. I will legit pay to watch a burger and stream the game next time. 😸
