Sony A7RV vs Sony A7SIII Which Camera Should I Choose in 2025?

I’m torn between sony a7rv and sony a7siii. One focuses more on photography and the other on video, but which is the better all-round camera right now?

Sony A7RV vs Sony A7SIII – I’m really stuck here. I mostly shoot a mix of travel photography and occasional video for YouTube. I know the A7RV is supposed to be amazing for stills with its high-res sensor, and the A7SIII is a beast for video. But I’m wondering, in 2025, which one is actually better as an all-rounder? Does anyone have real-world experience using both?

I have been using the A7SIII a few years and had a chance to work with the A7RV recently. Frankly speaking, the A7RV is much superior in case you think that photography is your priority. The 61MP sensor is simply insane in detail, and in dynamic range the sensor is simply next level. The A7SIII is a better video (at least in low-light) camera, but the stills will not take your breath away, in comparison to the A7RV.

Minor follow-up: OP, is the low-light performance or the resolution of greater concern to you? The A7SIII is mad in 4K video at high-ISOs and has the capability to capture darker scenes with a minimum noise. A7RV works fine when you are filming at night, however when it comes to shooting it is excellent. As an individual, I would say it depends on which side you are inclined towards.

I have literally used both hybrid work (weddings + YouTube). The Sony A7RV vs Sony A7SIII argument is reduced to the workflow. The A7RV takes fantastic stills and acceptable video (4K 60fps), whereas A7SIII has such options as 10-bit 4:2:2, uncropped 4K, and ridiculous stabilization, and the editing process becomes more convenient. In case the quality of video is a requirement, A7SIII is the undisputed winner. However, with work intensive on photography, A7RV wins.

Lens ecosystem is one of the things that are not mentioned so much. In the case of the A7RV, you may wish to use it along with the very high-quality prime lenses to bring the best out of that resolution. A7SIII is able to afford faster video zooms. And your lens money is important as well.

I wonder--has anyone experimented on the differences in the battery life of real shoots? I believe that the battery life of A7SIII is a little bit longer on a video shoot than on A7RV in case you have a lot of recording to do. The heat management of A7SIII also improves when the sessions are long.

Frankly speaking, I have decided to use the A7RV even when I needed to make an ordinary video. I have long filming sessions, which I record with external cameras, and the quality of the photo is too good to miss. Therefore, in case your use case is mixed, but touches more on photography, I would choose A7RV.

The A7RV will accommodate the vast majority of the video requirements of YouTube or low-budget projects, although it is not being used to shoot much low-light video. The A7SIII is more of a pro video-based camera. Therefore, in 2025, the A7RV could actually prove to be a better option to an all-rounder hybrid should I need the higher video capabilities, especially in someone wanting a hybrid.
