What causes red lines on PC screen and how can I fix it?

I’ve noticed red lines on PC screen recently and I’m not sure what’s causing them. Can someone explain what might be happening and how to fix it? Is it a problem with the monitor, the graphics card, or the display cable? Any tips or solutions would be really helpful.

One of the common reasons for seeing red lines on a computer monitor is a loose or damaged display cable. The other causes could be GPU problems, old graphics drivers, or even a faulty monitor panel. What I would do is first check and re-seat the HDMI/DP cable, or even try a different cable and port. Next, update or reinstall your graphics drivers. Finally, test your PC with a different monitor. If the red lines also show in BIOS or on another monitor, then probably the GPU is defective. However, if they only appear on one monitor, then the problem is most likely the panel.

It’s usually one of three things: a loose cable, a dying monitor, or GPU artifacts. Try plugging your PC into a TV with a different cable; if the lines disappear, your monitor or the old cable is the culprit.

Red lines on a PC screen are usually caused by faulty graphics drivers, overheating GPU, loose or damaged display cables, or a failing graphics card or monitor. To fix it, update or reinstall graphics drivers, check and reseat cables, test with another monitor, clean dust to reduce heat, and run hardware diagnostics. If lines persist, the GPU or screen may need repair or replacement.
