What is a mirrorless Camera?

I keep hearing about different types of cameras, but I’m not clear on the details. Can someone explain what is a mirrorless camera?
How is it different from a DSLR, and what are the main benefits?

To add to that, one big difference with a DSLR is the viewfinder. DSLRs use an optical viewfinder (OVF), which is literally looking through the lens via a mirror. Mirrorless cameras use an electronic viewfinder, so what you see is basically a mini screen showing exactly what the sensor sees. This can be handy for previewing exposure, white balance, and effects in real-time.

I’ve been using a mirrorless camera for a couple of years, and honestly, the weight difference alone is a game changer. My old DSLR was heavy to carry around for travel photography. With a mirrorless camera, I can walk around all day without feeling like my shoulders are going to break.

One thing to note, though, is lens availability. DSLRs have been around longer, so there’s a huge variety of lenses. Mirrorless systems are catching up, but if you’re looking for very specific lenses or super budget options, DSLR might still have the edge.

Also, mirrorless cameras are generally better for video. Since the autofocus is on the sensor itself, you get smoother focus transitions while filming. That’s why a lot of YouTubers prefer mirrorless cameras these days.

Just to clarify, if you’re a beginner, both DSLR and mirrorless can take amazing photos. It really depends on your priorities weight, video, lens choices, or budget. Mirrorless cameras are trending because they pack modern tech in a compact form, but DSLRs are still very reliable and sometimes cheaper for beginners.
