What Is Considered the Best Polling Rate for Mouse Performance in Gaming and Daily Use?

I’m trying to optimize my mouse settings and keep seeing debates about the best polling rate for mouse usage. Does a higher polling rate really improve accuracy, or is there a point where it doesn’t matter?

Honestly confused here what is polling rate? I thought my mouse just worked. If it’s something that literally affects accuracy, why doesn’t everyone just use the highest number possible?

For competitive shooters, higher polling rates (like 1000Hz) definitely help reduce input delay. But after ~1000Hz, gains are minimal. Unless you have a super-high refresh monitor, you won’t notice much beyond that.

Daily use? Doesn’t matter. I’m on 500Hz and can work, excel, browse, zoom no complaints. Feels the same as 1000Hz for non-gaming tasks.

Nazis about numbers here go 1000Hz to 8000Hz if your mouse supports it. More data = better accuracy, end of story. Peripherals aren’t perfect so send as much info as you can.

Measured in tests: mouse with 1000Hz polling rate had lower latency vs 500Hz by a few ms. But past 1000Hz, latency improvements plateaued. Real world? Very subtle.

Look, if you’re casual and not in tournaments, 500Hz vs 1000Hz is just nerd noise. Play what feels comfy. Your brain is worse input device than the mouse anyway.

Polling rate beyond a monitor’s refresh doesn’t mean visual feedback just data sent. So yes, higher can reduce click lag but don’t expect miracles past ~1000Hz unless top-tier gear. Context is everything.
