I heard Google has hidden games and wanted to try the breakout game on google. How do you access it, and does it still work the same way?

You can actually play Breakout through Google by searching for 'Atari Breakout' in Google Images. The image results turn into a playable game automatically. It works pretty much like the original, though the controls are a bit different if you’re used to old-school keyboards.

Just to clarify, Google doesn’t host the game on a standalone page anymore; it’s an Easter egg embedded in the image search. Functionally, it’s the same game logic as Atari Breakout, but it’s implemented in modern HTML5 canvas, not Flash. So it’s safe to play on current browsers.

I stumbled upon this last week while procrastinating. Took me straight back to my childhood arcade days. Controls are a bit smoother, but the nostalgia is 100% intact. Highly recommend.

I tried this a few months ago and the game kept glitching on Chrome. Maybe it depends on the browser version? Anyone else had issues with it recently?

For anyone looking for the exact same feel as the original, you want to use the desktop version of Chrome or Firefox. Mobile browsers sometimes don’t render the bricks properly. Also, you can tweak your paddle speed in some unofficial versions if you’re competitive.
