Why are phone labels (mobile, work, home) missing when importing Excel contacts?

This happens because Excel stores contacts in a flat spreadsheet format, so phone numbers aren’t tied to specific labels like mobile, work, or home. When you try to import such a file directly into Android or iPhone, the device can’t interpret which number corresponds to which label. The result: missing or misassigned phone labels and incomplete contact details.

To fix this, the spreadsheet must be converted into a structured contact format where each attribute is explicitly defined. Tools like Softaken Excel to vCard Converter handle this well. It lets you map Excel columns to the correct vCard fields, preserving labels, emails, and addresses. After conversion, importing the VCF file keeps all phone labels intact on both Android and iPhone, avoiding manual edits and ensuring accurate contact organization.
