Why does my Surface Pro pressure spot appear on the screen?

I recently noticed a Surface Pro pressure spot on my display, and it responds when touched. Could this affect touchscreen accuracy or worsen over time? Has anyone experienced a Surface Pro pressure spot, and what are safe ways to fix or prevent it?

The common cause of a pressure spot on a Microsoft Surface Pro screen is the physical pressure applied on the LCD layers below the glass. This can occur by slamming the screen, keeping it compactly closed or debris between the screen and the display. The pressure causes distortion of backlight and pixels resulting in bright or dark spots which can be lingering.
