Why does Task Manager show more RAM usage than expected?

I noticed Task Manager show more RAM usage even when few apps are open. It seems higher than what I think I’m using. Is this normal system behavior or something I should investigate?

Yes—this is normal behavior most of the time.
Modern systems (like Windows 11) use RAM aggressively for:
  • Caching & preloading (to make apps open faster)
  • Background services
  • Memory compression
So even if few apps are open, RAM may still look “high” because the system is using spare memory efficiently, not wasting it.

When to worry:
  • RAM stays near 90–100% constantly
  • System becomes slow/freezes
  • Unknown processes using large memory
