AMD AM5 Socket Issues

I’m putting together a new build with an AM5 board and ran into weird POST failures worried it might be socket/pin related. Did anyone else see physical issues or compatibility quirks (CPU seating, cooler clearance, BIOS quirks)? Would love to hear how you diagnosed it or what fixed the boot problems.

I had the same issue last month. Turned out my RAM wasn’t on the QVL list for the board, which caused random POST failures. Once I swapped to compatible sticks, it booted fine. Also, double-check that the CPU is fully seated and the retention bracket is clipped correctly AM5 can be picky if it’s even slightly misaligned.

Oh man, AM5 + first build = instant stress. I literally thought I bent a pin the first time I booted. Turns out I just forgot to plug in the CPU power connector… rookie move. 🤦‍♂️ Always check the obvious stuff before blaming the socket.

Honestly, I don’t think this is an AM5 “socket” problem at all. Most of these POST issues come from BIOS versions being outdated. If your board shipped with an old BIOS, the CPU might not even be fully supported yet. Update the BIOS first, then start worrying about pins.

I ran into weird POST issues too, mostly after installing a bigger cooler. Clearance is tight on some AM5 boards, and the heatsink can push the CPU slightly out of place. Took me a while to realize, but reseating the CPU after installing the cooler solved it.

Dude, check your socket with a flashlight. If there’s even one bent pin, you’re screwed. But don’t panic AM5 is surprisingly resilient. I’ve also seen people freak out over nothing; sometimes it’s literally the CMOS battery. Swap it, reset BIOS, and pray. 😅
