Battlefield 6 AMD Driver Error

I updated Battlefield 6 yesterday and now I keep getting an AMD driver error on launch game crashes, stutters, or forces a driver reset. I’m on a recent AMD GPU driver but not sure which version is stable. Has anyone found a reliable fix or a specific driver version that stopped this? Please share your setup and what worked.

I had the exact same thing after the last BF6 patch (RX 6800 XT, Win11). What helped me was a clean driver reinstall use DDU in safe mode to remove everything, then install an older “stable” AMD package (the one from before the patch) not the bleeding-edge hotfix. Also do these in order: verify game files (EA app/Steam), disable any overlays (Discord/GeForce Now/Steam overlay), turn off Radeon features like Chill / Anti-Lag / Super Resolution, and set Windows power plan to High Performance. If you still see driver resets, check Event Viewer for GPU/driver errors and consider increasing TdrDelay in the registry (back up first) that can stop Windows from killing the driver during a long hitch. No single magic bullet, but the DDU → older driver → disable overlays combo fixed it for me.

Funny story I yelled at my PC like it was a teammate and then actually fixed the crash. 😂
What I did: rolled back to a driver that was a couple releases older, did a clean install of the game (verify files), and launched with Windows Game Mode off. Also close Chrome with 50 tabs open my CPU was having a meltdown. For me it was 80% overlay/utility conflict, 20% driver. Try simple stuff first: clean driver, close apps, test.

Nope, it’s 100% AMD. They pushed something in the latest drivers that breaks DX settings in BF6 rollback fixed it for a ton of people in my Discord. If you keep blaming EA patches you’ll waste hours. If you want to game tonight: DDU → install previous driver. End of story.

I disagree I only started getting crashes after the BF6 update, not the driver update. I tested multiple driver versions and the only thing that fixed it for me was a hotfix from AMD that came a day after the game patch, plus switching the game to the other renderer (if BF6 lets you switch between DX12/DX11). So it can be either the game or the driver depending on your exact GPU/OS. Both sides have a point test both: try different drivers and try changing the renderer/in-game graphics preset.

I’m on an AMD laptop (6700M) and had stutters + driver resets after the last BF6 update. My steps that worked: update laptop BIOS + chipset drivers from the vendor (often overlooked), set GPU power to maximum performance in the vendor control panel, and uninstall the latest driver with DDU then install the vendor-recommended mobile driver (not the generic desktop package from AMD). Also disable battery saver and set thermal/power profile to “Performance” in the laptop’s tool. After that, no more driver resets for me. If you’re on a desktop, vendor BIOS isn’t relevant but for laptops it often is.
