I’m setting up encryption on a new Windows 11 machine. Is it possible to enable BitLocker without Secure Boot, and are there any risks?

you can enable bitlocker without secure boot, but keep in mind it might leave your system more vulnerable to attacks, especially those targeting firmware.

recently, microsoft announced a windows 11 update that improves bitlocker functionality, even without secure boot, by using alternative boot mechanisms for full disk encryption.

bitlocker can be used without secure boot on windows 11, but it relies on alternative boot mechanisms for full disk encryption, which may have security implications.

windows 11's latest update includes a feature to improve bitlocker's functionality without requiring secure boot, which could be useful for systems that don't support it.

you can use bitlocker without secure boot on windows 11, but it's worth noting that alternative boot mechanisms are used for full disk encryption in this case, which may have some security implications.

i'd like to add that using alternative boot mechanisms for full disk encryption, as seen in recent windows 11 updates, may involve the use of a trusted platform module, or tpm, to store encryption keys.

recent windows 11 updates allow bitlocker to use alternative boot mechanisms for full disk encryption without secure boot, possibly involving a trusted platform module to store encryption keys.
