I’m trying to figure out can you use a ps4 controller on ps5 for games or just for navigating the menu. Does it work for all games, or only PS4 titles?

Yes, you can use a PS4 controller on a PS5, but only for PS4 games running through backward compatibility. It won’t work on native PS5 games at all because Sony restricts DualShock 4 support for PS5 titles. You can still use it for menus, media apps, and Remote Play though.

Bro yes, it works… but only for PS4 games. I tried using my DS4 on Spider-Man 2 and the PS5 literally gave me attitude like “nah fam, upgrade your controller.” So yeah, menus + PS4 games only.

It works for everything dude, I literally played Astro’s Playroom with a PS4 controller last week. People keep spreading misinformation.

No you didn’t lmao. Astro’s Playroom forces DualSense because of the haptic triggers. PS5 games don’t allow DS4 at all. Stop flexing fake stories.

PS4 controller = DualShock 4
PS5 controller = DualSense

The system blocks DS4 for PS5 games because the DualSense has features like adaptive triggers and advanced haptics. The hardware needs those for a lot of PS5 titles. So yeah, DS4 is fine for PS4 games, Remote Play, and navigating UI, but nothing more.

I still use my old PS4 controller for all my PS4 downloads on the PS5. Works totally fine. But the moment you launch a PS5 game, it straight-up forces you to connect a DualSense. Low-key annoying but I get why. So if you're planning multiplayer PS5 games with friends, you’ll need extra DualSense controllers.
