Does Dell Alienware 15R3 Have NVMe Slot for SSD Upgrade?

I’m planning to upgrade the storage on my laptop and want to confirm whether does dell alienware 15r3 have nvme slot support. I’ve found mixed answers online, and I don’t want to buy the wrong SSD. Can someone clarify the supported storage types and whether NVMe drives work without adapters?

Yes it does support NVMe. The Alienware 15R3 has an M.2 slot that supports PCIe/NVMe SSDs. You don’t need a weird adapter, just a proper 2280 NVMe drive. Lots of folks have replaced the stock SATA with NVMe without issues.

Honestly OP, double-check your exact model number before ordering. Dell sometimes shipped variants with only SATA M.2 depending on region. Look up your service tag on Dell’s site to be sure.

To clarify for others:
The 15R3 typically has one M.2 slot supporting PCIe x4 NVMe. SATA-only M.2 is rare but possible in very early SKUs. If your BIOS shows PCIe SSD options and UEFI NVMe support you’re good. Always update BIOS first.

I recently added a 500GB NVMe to mine. Easy install, no adapters, and the drive shows up perfectly in Windows. Just make sure you have the right screw (some kits don’t include it).

Back in my day we had spinning platters and liked it… but yes, the NVMe sits right in that little slot next to the Wi-Fi card. Works fine.

Just because it can take NVMe doesn’t mean you’ll always get full speeds some SKUs run at x2 lanes, not x4. Check your exact board revision. But adapters? Nope, not needed.
