How can I add or use custom Discord emojis in my server?

I’m trying to upload and use custom emojis on my Discord server, but I’m not sure about the steps or limitations. Can someone explain how to do it properly?

Oh, this is super easy! You just need to be an admin (or have the “Manage Emojis” permission). Go to your server settings → Emoji → Upload Emoji. Make sure your image is under 256kb and ideally a square PNG or GIF if you want it animated. Then, you can use it in chat with :emoji_name:. Easy peasy.

Heads up, if you’re on a free Discord server, you can only use your custom emojis inside your server. If you want to use them on other servers, you’ll need Discord Nitro. That caught me off guard the first time 😅

Honestly, the annoying part is naming your emojis. Discord doesn’t allow spaces, so if you want something like a happy cat, you have to do :happy_cat:. And also, animated ones are only GIFs, obviously, and you need Nitro to animate them. Otherwise, static PNGs work fine.

Bruh, you clearly don’t understand Discord culture. Custom emojis are the backbone of any server. Without them, chats are bland. You want to fight about it?😂

Just a tip: Keep your emojis small and recognizable. I’ve seen people upload huge, detailed images thinking it’ll look cool, but once it’s tiny in chat, it’s basically a blob. Less is more!
