How can I disable Windows Updates in Windows 10 and 11?

I’m looking for reliable ways to disable or pause Windows Updates on both Windows 10 and 11. What methods work best—using Services, Group Policy, or other tools? Are there any risks or things I should consider before turning updates off?

Open Services (Win + R → services.msc), find Windows Update, right-click, choose Properties, set Startup type to Disabled, and click Stop. This prevents automatic updates in Windows 10/11.

You can disable Windows Updates by stopping the Windows Update service or using Group Policy Editor to turn off automatic updates. Just note, it may leave your PC vulnerable to security risks.
