With the success of the Steam Deck, I’m interested in how the sony playstation platform business model is shifting. Are they moving more toward a software-as-a-service model, or will hardware remain the core of the sony playstation platform business? I’m looking for a detailed discussion on their recent PC port strategy and how it affects the value of the PS5 console ecosystem.

The gaming world is insane as it has changed today with the ubiquity of the Steam Deck and ROG Ally. Sony is not merely defiantly shruking about the trend they are turning a corner to ensure that you get to play their hits whether you are in a couch or a bus which is stuck.

How Sony is Changing the Game

The PC "Fast-Track":
Sony has finally realized that they cannot hold onto all their blockbusters in the box indefinitely. They are also bringing big games to PC significantly quicker than earlier (occasionally day-and-date on live-service games), optimizing them to run well on handheld PCs, and so they can be played on technologies such as the Steam Deck.

Native Handheld Ambitions: Although the PlayStation portal was a remote-play prototype, there is recent speculation that Sony is developing a native handheld (under the codename Jupiter) that can local play PS5 games without being connected to Wi-Fi.

The Major Change of Direction: It is not about forcefully selling a PS5 console, but about a platform-first model that PlayStation is. They desire you to be in their ecosystem purchasing games, joining PS Plus whether it’s on a console, PC or a handheld.

Essentially they retain PS5 as the high-end domestic channel and PC and emerging handheld devices to remain in business with their brand in the world where everybody desires to play on the move.
