How to factory reset an iPad without a password?

I'm facing an issue on my iPad but am not able to reset it because I have forgotten my password. My problem is genuine, and it would be really great if someone could help me with the solution.

I remember the time when I wanted to rest my iPad’s factory after forgetting the password, it was quite frustrating. I was repeatedly browsing for the solution and finally, I found the one.

Here, I’m listing the directions that assist me in factory resetting the iPad.

  1. Turn Off Your iPad: Press and hold the power button of your iPad, until “slide to power off” appears, then turn it off.

  1. Open the Recovery Mode Screen: First, connect your iPad to your computer by pressing and holding the home screen (for the older version), and press and hold the volume down button (for the latest version) while plugging in it. And keep holding it until the recovery mode doesn’t start.

  1. Restore via Finder or iTunes: Open Finder (macOS Catalina or later) or iTunes (Windows/macOS Mojave or earlier). Lastly, select “Restore” to start the procedure.

  1. Wait for a While: Adherence to the aforementioned steps will start the factory reset process, wait for a while until your data is cleared and the process ends successfully.
Thus, before executing this process, make sure you have taken a complete backup of your essential data.

  • iTunes/Finder Method:
  • Connect iPad to computer → Force restart → "Restore" in iTunes/Finder.
  • iCloud Method (if Find My is ON):
    • Go to iCloud.com → "Find My" → Erase iPad remotely.
  • Recovery Mode (iOS 15+):
    • Force restart → "Erase iPad" in recovery mode.
