I’m trying to figure out how to recover deleted text messages on iPhone. Are there built-in features or apps that can help retrieve lost messages safely?

If you've mistakenly deleted important text messages on your iPhone, don't fret! Just head to the Messages app and pick "Recently Deleted" from the "Filters" or "Edit" menu, where the messages are kept for 30 days maximum. Simply highlight the conversations you wish to restore and hit "Recover" to get them back.

If your iPhone is running iOS 16 or later, you can recover deleted text messages by looking at the Messages app's "Recently Deleted" section, restoring from an iCloud backup created prior to the deletion, or using an iTunes/Finder backup on a computer. You can try a reliable third-party recovery tool if none of these work and the messages are crucial, but success isn't always assured.

To restore deleted text messages, use the Messages app and go to Recently deleted messages and then: Tap the messages and tap the Recover.
This is limited to messages that are deleted in the 30 days.
You can restore them in case of an iCloud backup, which is made prior to deletion and they are older.
There are also some third-party tools that do work, the success rate differs.

Use the Messages app, select Recently deleted messages, then tap the messages and select Recover to recover deleted text messages.
This only applies to communications that are removed within 30 days.
If you have an older iCloud backup that was created before they were deleted, you can restore them.
While certain third-party products are effective, their success rates vary.
