A recent update messed up my graphics performance, so I want to learn how to roll back nvidia drivers correctly. What’s the step-by-step method in Windows, and is it better to use Device Manager or install an older version manually?
Frankly speaking, the simplest one is by way of Device Manager. Open Device Manager - Display Adapters - Right-Click Nvidia card - Properties- Driver- Roll Back Driver. Windows tends to retain the old driver so you do not even have to download anything. The only negative thing is that it is grayed sometimes in case you have cleaned old drivers recently.
I once attempted to download the old driver manually... on the one hand, it worked out, and I got myself 10 random Nvidia folders scattered around my computer and got a small panic attack on the other hand. Roll back of device Manager is not risky unless you are a fan of chaos.
I am talking about manual install when the rollback button is grayed. You have the complete control and can choose precisely the version that you know is functioning. But 99% of the people do not need anything more than Device Manager does.
Ugh, I feel you. The last update of drivers made all my games stutter like mad. I unrolled by using the Device Manager and my FPS was restored. All you have to do is to restart when rollback, otherwise windows is a tricky system.
And another tip: the next time you update the Nvidia drivers, pray. In earnest, save some installer to the last stable version somewhere. Windows rollback is good, but it is nice to have the file in case hell breaks loose.
