How to Switch Tabs with Keyboard Without Using the Mouse?

My mouse just died and I’m trying to finish a research project. Does anyone know how to switch tabs with keyboard shortcuts on both Chrome and Edge? I know Alt+Tab switches between windows, but I need to move specifically between the browser tabs I have open.

If there are different shortcuts for moving forward and backward through the list, please list them. Also, if there's a way how to switch tabs with keyboard to a specific tab (like the 3rd one), that would save me a lot of time while I wait for my replacement mouse to arrive.

Control + Tab is the way to go. It circulates through them on the right. Going backward (to the left) simply requires you to add Shift to the mix, i.e. Ctrl + Shift + Tab. Works on virtually any browser that has ever been created.

RIP to your mouse. You will also be able to access a certain tab by using Ctrl + 1 to 8. The Ctrl + 3 will automatically open your third tab and Ctrl + 9 will open to the final open tab no matter how many there are.

Wow, do they still open a tap with the use of a mouse? I believe we have all done the conversion to the keyboard-only cult many years ago. When you have the muscle memory, it is so much quicker.

On a Mac, the command then option then left/Right arrows. Given that you mentioned Edge though, I suppose that you are using Windows, and there the Ctrl + Tab procedure should do.

In fact, I would like to use Ctrl + PageUp and Ctrl + PageDown. I find it more comfortable than having to stretch my fingers to touch the Tab key, particularly when I am in research binge.

Just a heads up, if you accidentally close a tab while trying to figure out how to switch tabs with keyboard shortcuts, hit Ctrl + Shift + T. It will revive the final shut down tab. Saved my life more than once.

Google is your friend, but since you're already here: Ctrl+Tab for next, Ctrl+Shift+Tab for previous. Now go finish that project before your keyboard dies too lol.
