How will the dji drone ban fcc vote affect current owners?

With the FCC adding DJI to the "Covered List" recently, I'm getting worried about my Mavic. Does the dji drone ban fcc vote only block new imports, or will they eventually stop us from being able to register or fly the drones we already own? Looking for some clarity before I invest in any more accessories.

An FCC vote to ban DJI drones would primarily affect future sales, but current owners could face significant hurdles. While existing drones might not be immediately confiscated, a ban could lead to the revocation of FCC authorizations, potentially disabling flight apps or preventing software updates. This would impact hobbyists and commercial pilots who rely on DJI's ecosystem for mapping, photography, and industrial inspections.

Here’s how the FCC vote on a potential DJI drone ban could affect current owners:
  • You can still fly drones you already own — existing models remain legal and operable under current FAA rules
  • It might get harder to get parts, repairs, or software updates over time.
  • New models and imports are blocked from U.S. sales once on the FCC “Covered List.”
  • Long-term regulatory changes could impact future support or certification.
