Is Crunchyroll Free?

Hi everyone, I’m curious if Crunchyroll offers a free option for streaming anime. Are there limitations compared to the premium plan, or can I watch most shows without paying?

Crunchyroll used to offer a free, ad‑supported way to watch some anime with limited access and delays compared to paid plans, and new users could also try a 7‑day free trial of Premium. With the free tier you could only watch a small selection of shows, deal with ads, and sometimes wait longer for new episodes.

However, Crunchyroll has announced that it will completely end its free, ad‑supported streaming option as of December 31, 2025, meaning you’ll need a paid subscription to watch most content after that date.

So right now you can still use a free trial or the free Crunchyroll Channel (with very limited content), but the full free plan with ads is being phased out and won’t be available in the near future.

Yes — Crunchyroll used to have a free, ad-supported tier where you could watch some older anime without paying. But Crunchyroll is ending that free plan on December 31, 2025

Yes, Crunchyroll is free with ads, but a paid subscription is required for ad-free viewing and full access.

Crunchyroll also had an ad-supported, limited access ability to watch a limited amount of anime. But they are discontinuing that free streaming level on December 31, 2025, which will imply that the majority of the content will need a paid subscription in 2026 and past.
