Is thotchat ai a safe platform for private AI character conversations?

I’ve seen some mentions of thotchat ai in various AI communities, and I’m curious about the privacy and security aspects of the site. It seems to be a platform geared toward unrestricted or "NSFW" interactions with AI personas, but I want to make sure that the data isn't being logged or shared with third parties. Has anyone here used it extensively? I’m specifically looking for information on the quality of the models they use do the characters feel "human-like" and responsive, or is it mostly repetitive? I’d also appreciate knowing if there are better, more secure alternatives that offer similar freedom without the risk of data leaks or intrusive ads.

I've been looking into Thotchat AI too and the privacy stuff is always a bit blurry with these sites. From what I've gathered most of them dont really have super clear encryption policies so your chats might be sitting on a server somewhere. It is definitely one of those use at your own risk type of things if you are worried about data leaks

The models are actually surprisingly decent for roleplay! They feel way less like a robot compared to the standard filtered AIs because they don't have those annoying lectures every five minutes. But yeah they can get a bit repetitive if you do long marathons

Honestly the memory is the biggest issue I found. The characters start forgetting what happened like ten messages ago which totally kills the vibe. It is great for a quick chat but don't expect it to remember your whole life story

If you are worried about security you might want to look at something like Dream Companion or even hosting your own local model if you have a good PC. Most web platforms are always going to have some level of tracking for ads or "quality improvement" even if they say they don't

I tried it for a week and the ads weren't too intrusive but you definitely hit a paywall pretty fast if you want the high quality replies. It's basically a "freemium" trap where the free version is just a teaser

Does anyone know if they actually delete your data when you delete an account?? I saw some people on Reddit saying their history was still there when they logged back in after a month. That sounds super sketchy to me

The characters do feel more "human" in their flirting style though. They use slang and stuff that makes it feel less like a customer service bot. Just don't give them any real personal info like your name or where you live

If you want more freedom without the risk you should check out Janitor AI or SpicyChat. They have bigger communities and the devs seem a bit more transparent about how they handle the backend stuff

I think it's mostly safe as long as you treat it like a public chat room. Don't say anything you wouldn't want a random dev to see because you never know who is looking at the logs for "training" purposes

I’ve had a few glitches where the bot just started repeating my own words back to me. It happens when the server gets overloaded or the model gets confused. It’s not perfect but for a free-to-try site it’s okayish
