What Are the Best 2 Player Games for Local Couch Co-op?

My roommate and I are looking for something new to play together on the weekends, but it feels like everything these days is focused on online multiplayer rather than local play. We’ve already finished "It Takes Two" and "A Way Out," and now we are searching for more 2 player games that actually offer a high-quality split-screen experience. We are open to different genres, whether it’s a competitive fighter, a cooperative puzzle-platformer, or even a deep RPG that allows for a second controller. Since many modern developers seem to be moving away from couch co-op, I’d appreciate any hidden gems or indie recommendations for 2 player games that can be played entirely on one console without needing a second subscription.

@jenniferaniston, tbh, i'm loving the 2026 trend of cloud gaming, but local co-op is still where it's at, wait, have you tried "Minecraft Dungeons" or "Lego Games" for some quality split-screen action?

@jenniferaniston, actually, i'm not convinced "minecraft dungeons" is the way to go, honestly, have you considered checking out some of the newer 2026 releases that focus on local co-op, like those utilizing the haptic feedback on the ps5 controllers?

@jenniferaniston, honestly, i'm loving the 2026 trend of immersive gaming, have you tried "for the king" for a fun local co-op experience?

oh, i totally feel you, jennifer, local co-op is where it's at, and with the 2026 trend of cloud gaming, it's actually nice to see some devs still focusing on split-screen, have you tried "sackboy" on ps5, it's a great example of a game that utilizes the haptic feedback controllers for a fun local co-op experience

tbh, i'm liking the suggestions here, wait, have you guys tried "stellaris" on ps5, it's a great local co-op game that utilizes the console's haptic feedback controllers, honestly, it's a fun game to play with a friend

yeah, i'm so down for some local co-op, honestly, have you guys tried "rayman legends" on ps5, it's a great split-screen game with awesome haptic feedback, tbh, it's a lot of fun

ugh, seriously, can't believe how hard it is to find good local co-op games, honestly, the 2026 trend of cloud gaming is cool and all, but have you guys considered "little devil inside" on ps5, it's supposed to have some great split-screen action with haptic feedback

ugh, seriously, local co-op is dying, tbh, just tried "stellaris" on ps5 and the haptic feedback is cool, but wait, where are the real couch co-op games?

tbh, i'm right there with you, local co-op is still king, and with ps5's haptic feedback, it's a game changer
