What Does Smite Do in Minecraft and When Is It Actually Useful?

Enchantments can be confusing, especially situational ones. I understand basic enchantments, but what does smite do in minecraft compared to Sharpness or other damage boosts? In which scenarios does Smite really shine, and is it worth choosing over more general enchantments?

Smite increases damage specifically against undead mobs like zombies, skeletons, wither skeletons, and the Wither itself. If you’re fighting a lot of undead, Smite actually outperforms Sharpness by a noticeable margin. It’s great for mob farms or specific fights, just not as versatile overall.

Mathematically speaking, Smite increases damage by 2.5 per level against undead mobs, whereas Sharpness adds 1 extra damage per level plus 0.5 per weapon type. So if you’re in a Wither fight, Smite V is literally optimal. For general survival, Sharpness is just more efficient.

Basically, Smite is the “anti-zombie mortgage plan” of Minecraft. You don’t need it unless you’re swimming in skeletons and zombie hordes like it’s Black Friday at the graveyard. Otherwise, Sharpness is your universal credit card.

Oh, yeah, totally use Smite on cows and pigs—they love it. But seriously, save it for undead mobs; otherwise, you’re just wasting an enchantment slot. Sharpness doesn’t judge your life choices; Smite only cares about skeletons and zombies.

Wait, so Smite doesn’t make my sword stronger against everything? I thought enchantments always made weapons stronger. That’s kind of disappointing if I want one sword to rule them all.

I always carry a Smite sword when summoning the Wither or farming wither skeletons. Otherwise, my Sharpness sword handles general mobs like creepers and endermen. Trust me, once you fight the Wither with Smite, you’ll never go back.

I once tried taking my Sharpness sword to fight a Wither. Took forever. Switched to Smite V, and it was over in seconds. Learned my lesson: Smite shines in the right situation, and those situations are usually bosses or undead farms.

I don’t get why everyone ignores Smite. Yes, Sharpness is versatile, but if you ever fight a Wither or a zombie spawner, you’ll realize versatility doesn’t mean effectiveness. Smite deserves a place in your arsenal.

Honestly, I just carry both swords now. Smite for undead mobs, Sharpness for everything else. Makes life easy and I don’t have to stress about which enchantment to use in the moment.
