What does SOS mean on iPhone and how it works?

If you're wondering, “what does SOS mean on iPhone,” it's essential to understand why it appears. “SOS” or “SOS Only” shows up on your iPhone when your device loses connection to your usual carrier but can still reach emergency services. This mode allows you to make emergency calls even without normal network service.

Well, @Simran Kaur Rakhra you said right above about what SOS means. Check out below how to activate and when to use this feature.

How to Activate SOS on iPhone

There are two ways to activate the Emergency SOS feature
  • Press and hold the side button and either volume button together until the Emergency SOS slider appears.
  • Keep holding the buttons, and your iPhone will automatically call emergency services after the countdown.
What Happens When You Use SOS?
  • Your iPhone automatically calls emergency services.
  • After the call, your emergency contacts get a text message with your current location (if enabled).
  • If your location changes, your iPhone sends updates to your emergency contacts.

SOS is an Emergency SOS on an iPhone. It allows you to call an ambulance, pressing the side button and the volume button (or the power button five times on older models).

When it is turned on, it will dial local emergency numbers and it can transmit your position to emergency contacts. When you see SOS in the status bar, it is normally that your phone has a limited network connection and you can only make emergency calls.
