What is a Direct Message (DM)?

I keep hearing people mention Direct Messages (DMs) on social media platforms. Can someone explain what a Direct Message is and how it’s used compared to regular public messages?

Pretty much, yeah. A DM is similar to a personal message that you and the other individual can see it. Think of it like whispering in class, instead of shouting in a room.

It is also in DMs that the actual drama occurs. Individuals make complimentary remarks on the social media and proceed to be all so what did you really mean by that. in DMs.

True! In Twitter (X? whatever it is called now), it is DMs that should be used to have a one on one conversation. It is also the place where people take their shot on Instagram.

DMs are now used as abbreviations of message me privately. Similar to a person saying My DMs are open, it merely means that any person can write to them.
