I recently heard about RTT calling but I’m not sure what it actually does. I understand it’s related to real-time text during calls. Can someone explain how it works and when it’s useful?

RTT (Real-Time Text) calling lets users send text instantly during a phone call, with each letter appearing as it’s typed. It’s designed for people who are deaf or have speech difficulties. On devices like iPhone or Android, RTT works over cellular or Wi-Fi, allowing seamless communication without voice. Both parties must enable RTT, and it often integrates with accessibility settings for easier use.

RTT is live text communication during calls.

RTT calling is a communication method that lets users send text instantly during a phone call. Unlike SMS, characters appear on the recipient’s screen as they are typed. It is useful for people with hearing or speech difficulties. RTT works over IP networks, often through smartphones or apps, and integrates with voice calls, allowing text and audio to be used simultaneously in real time.
