What Is the Proper Way to Clean Mouse Pad Without Damaging It?

My desk setup needs cleaning, and I’m unsure how to clean mouse pad safely. Are there different methods for cloth vs hard mouse pads?

I usually clean my cloth mouse pad with lukewarm water and a tiny drop of mild dish soap. Gently scrub with my hand, rinse well, and air dry flat. Never had any issues so far.

For cloth pads, avoid hot water and harsh detergents as they break down the stitching and surface coating. Hard mouse pads should only be wiped with a microfiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol.

I once threw my mouse pad in the washing machine. It came out clean… and shaped like a Pringles chip. Don’t do what I did. Hand wash only.

If your mouse pad crunches when you move the mouse, cleaning might already be too late. But yeah, mild soap, gentle scrub, no power tools involved.

Wait, people clean mouse pads? I’ve been using mine for three years straight. Explains why my mouse feels “laggy” lately.

High-end gaming pads often have a coating that wears off if scrubbed too hard. Light circular motions and air drying are critical to preserve glide consistency.

I clean my mouse pad every few months, and it genuinely improves tracking. Especially noticeable in FPS games where precision matters a lot.

In order to clean a mouse pad without ruining it, it is important to wipe the surface with soft cloth that is damp with slight soap and warm water, scrub in circles in case of dirtiness, rinse or wipe off the soap, and leave it in the air to dry properly before using, hence it will be flat or clean and without any warping or fraying.
