What is the Real Logic Behind a Space Force Orbital Warship Carrier?

I have been reading sci fi and military technology and I continue to read this concept of a space-force orbital warship carrier. Physics wise is that actually logical or is it a big target in LEO? Any ideas how the launch of smaller vessels using an orbital platform would compare to the launch of small vessels on the ground?

Logistically, a carrier in orbit is just a massive "shoot me" sign. In space, there is no horizon to hide behind, and stealth is nearly impossible due to heat signatures. Why bundle all your expensive assets into one hull that a single kinetic kill vehicle could take out?
