Bluetooth keeps disconnecting on my laptop, and logs point to an intel wireless bluetooth driver error. Is this typically caused by outdated drivers, Windows updates, or hardware issues?
Most of the time it’s driver-related. Windows updates sometimes install generic Bluetooth drivers that don’t play nicely with Intel hardware. I’d recommend downloading the latest driver directly from Intel’s website and disabling automatic driver updates temporarily to see if the issue stops.
In my experience, the issue often comes from power management. Windows aggressively turns off the Bluetooth adapter to save power. Check Device Manager → Bluetooth → Intel adapter → Power Management tab and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device.”
I had the same Intel wireless Bluetooth driver error after upgrading to Windows 11. Rolling back to an older driver actually fixed it. Newer isn’t always better, especially on slightly older laptops.
Not everything is a driver issue. If Bluetooth keeps failing even in Linux or after a clean Windows install, it could be the Bluetooth module itself slowly dying.
Does it happen more when you’re on battery power? That was the key clue for me. Once I changed power plans and disabled USB power saving, the disconnects stopped.
Intel Bluetooth drivers are tightly coupled with Intel Wi-Fi drivers. If only Bluetooth is updated and Wi-Fi isn’t, instability happens. Always update both together from Intel’s official support tool.
I’m not super technical, but reinstalling the Bluetooth driver and restarting the Bluetooth Support Service fixed it for me. Took like 5 minutes and saved a lot of frustration.
