I’m planning an upgrade and realized I don’t know how to figure out what motherboard i have. Are there built-in tools or simple steps that can help identify it accurately?

The easiest way is using Windows. Open Command Prompt and type wmic baseboard get product, manufacturer. It usually gives the exact motherboard model. No extra software needed.

If you’re not comfortable with commands, try CPU-Z. It’s free and shows motherboard info in a clean tab. Super easy even if you’re new to PC stuff.

BIOS is the most reliable source. Reboot, enter BIOS/UEFI, and the motherboard model is usually listed on the main screen. This avoids Windows reporting errors.

I had the same issue during an upgrade. CPU-Z worked instantly, while Windows commands didn’t show the full model. Definitely recommend software first.

Ah yes, the classic “I built it years ago and forgot everything” situation. Luckily, your PC remembers more than you do. CPU-Z is your friend.
