Who owns Instagram?

The app was launched in 2010 by cofounders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and it is now owned by Meta Platforms, Inc., the parent company of Facebook. Major shareholders of Meta Platforms include Mark Zuckerberg, Vanguard, and BlackRock.
 
In 2012 Facebook Inc. bought Instagram through its corporate subsidiary Meta Platforms for a purchase price of $1 billion. Through the acquisition, Meta controls 4 major platforms, which are Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram.

Meta acquired the app in April 2012 for approximately $1 billion in cash and stock. Today, it remains a core part of Meta’s "Family of Apps," which also includes Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger. The current head of Instagram is Adam Mosseri, who reports directly to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
