Why Am I Getting ERR_CONNECTION_RESET on My Browser and How Do I Fix It?

I keep running into err_connection_reset on multiple websites and pages refuse to load. What usually causes this issue, and what are the most effective fixes for it on Windows or Chrome?

This error basically means your browser tried to connect but something in between cut the connection. On Windows/Chrome it’s usually caused by: bad DNS, VPN messing up traffic, corrupted Chrome profile, or your ISP blocking/rerouting something.
What fixes it for most people:

• Reset TCP/IP using netsh int ip reset
• Change DNS to 8.8.8.8
• Disable any VPN/Proxy
• Clear Chrome’s cache
  I’d start with DNS though that fixes it like 70% of the time.

Bro, check your antivirus/firewall. I swear these third-party antiviruses act like they own your PC. Once mine blocked half the internet because it “felt suspicious.”
If you're using Avast, AVG, Kaspersky, anything like that… disable shields for a minute and reload the page.
If it loads, uninstall that thing ASAP. Windows Defender is enough.

Not always antivirus lol. People love blaming security apps but 90% of the time Chrome’s own settings are broken.
OP, try this:
Go to chrome://settings/reset → “Restore settings to original defaults.”
Restart Chrome.
It won’t delete bookmarks, just resets configs. Fixed it for me instantly.

Weirdly enough, I ONLY get this error when I turn off my VPN. My ISP throttles random sites at peak hours and causes resets. When VPN is on, everything loads fine.
So if you’re using crappy local ISP (like I used to), try switching DNS + keeping VPN on for a few minutes.
Sometimes the ISP is the real villain here.

dk why everyone is giving long tutorials. This happened to me because my WiFi router was dying slowly like an overworked government employee.
A reboot fixed it… until it finally gave up a week later.
So yeah, before you reset the whole internet, try turning the router off → count to 10 → turn it back on.
(And if that works, congratulations, your router is 95% broken )
