Why Are My GPU Fans Not Spinning Even Under Load?

My system is running but the gpu fans not spinning at all, even during gaming. Is this normal behavior, or could it indicate a hardware or driver issue?

This can actually be normal. Many modern GPUs have a zero-RPM or fan stop mode, where the GPU fans not spinning under light to moderate load is intentional. The fans usually start spinning only after the GPU hits a certain temperature, like 55–60°C. Have you checked your GPU temperature while gaming?

I had the same issue and thought my GPU was broken. Turned out the fans not spinning was by design. Once my card crossed around 62°C, the fans kicked in instantly. Use tools like MSI Afterburner or HWMonitor to confirm temps and fan curves.

If the GPU fans not spinning even when temperatures go above 70–75°C, then that’s when I’d start troubleshooting. It could be a driver issue, custom fan curve problem, or even a BIOS setting on the GPU. Try reinstalling GPU drivers or resetting fan curves to default.

Another thing to check is airflow. If your case has really good airflow, the GPU might not heat up enough to trigger the fans. My RTX card stays silent most of the time because my case fans do most of the work.

I’d also recommend testing with a stress tool like FurMark or running a demanding game and watching temps in real time. If the GPU fans not spinning during an actual stress test and temps keep climbing, then it could be a faulty fan connector or sensor.

One more possibility: some GPUs won’t spin the fans at boot either. They only spin once the temperature threshold is reached. As long as temps are under control, the GPU fans not spinning isn’t automatically a bad sign.

In most cases, GPU fans not spinning is normal due to zero RPM modes on modern cards. Just monitor temperatures under real load. If temps stay safe, you’re fine. If temps rise but fans stay off, then start looking at drivers, fan curves, or possible hardware issues.
