Why Do I Keep Getting Error Messages in Marvel Rivals?

Whenever I play Marvel Rivals, I keep getting random error messages that interrupt gameplay. Is this a server issue, a device problem, or something else? What are the best ways to fix it?

I’ve seen this a lot and honestly it’s usually a mix of server instability + client‑side network issues. Marvel Rivals does a bunch of checks in the background (matchmaking, sync, rank updates), and if anything hiccups it tends to throw a generic error. First thing I’d check is whether servers are stable that day threads have been blowing up whenever there’s a new patch drop or a big event live.

Also make sure you’re not playing during peak maintenance windows those aren’t always announced clearly.

Totally device related too. I used to play on an older phone and kept getting “Network Unreachable” / “Connection Interrupted” errors even though my Wi‑Fi was fine. Swapped to wired internet on PC and it stopped almost entirely. Marvel Rivals seems very sensitive to packet loss.

Try running a simple network test or even switch from Wi‑Fi to mobile data and see if the frequency drops. If it does, you know it’s your connection.

A few things to try:
  1. Restart the game & your device - sounds basic, but it clears up cached tokens and stale connections.
  2. Check server status on Twitter/Discord - official channels usually alert when servers are unstable.
  3. Update the game - outdated clients often fail to authenticate or match properly.
  4. Verify files (PC) - if any game files are missing or corrupted, you’ll see random error messages.
I’ve had users fix it just by clearing local cache or reinstalling.

I play on PS5 and yeah error messages skyrocketed after one patch. Seemed like a client bug, because once they hotfixed, it got way better. So it can absolutely be a Marvel Rivals server issue instead of anything on your side.

Check patch notes and community threads people will usually call it out within hours.

Does it happen in both quickplay and arenas? I noticed it mostly happens during match start/queue. That screams matchmaking server timeout to me. If you can start matches fine but crash mid‑match, that might be memory leaks or device struggling to keep up. Try lowering graphics settings, closing background apps, etc.

Follow‑up question: is this happening with every character or just certain game modes? I had it only in 5v5 mode for a while; 3v3 was fine. Could be load on specific mode servers.

Also if you’re on Wi‑Fi, try a short ping test. If it spikes every few seconds, Marvel Rivals will throw an error instead of gracefully handling it.

One less mentioned fix enable QoS on your router and prioritize your gaming device. Helps if you’ve got roommates streaming/zooming because Marvel Rivals really hates latency spikes. After I set that up, my random error messages dropped dramatically.

To sum up, the error message issue in Marvel Rivals is most likely:
  • Server instability / patch rollout bugs
  • Network issues (latency/packet loss)
  • Device performance / corrupted client data
Best fixes: restart game/device, check servers, update game, try different network, or reinstall if needed. If none of these help, bug report + logs to support they’ll sometimes send a hotfix if it’s a widespread error.
