Why Is My Surface Device Suddenly Having a Surface Keyboard Not Working Issue?

My Surface keyboard was working fine until recently, but now I’m facing a surface keyboard not working problem where keystrokes aren’t registering at all. I’ve tried reconnecting it, restarting the device, and checking basic settings, but nothing seems to help. Could this be related to drivers, firmware updates, or a hardware connection issue?

This happened to me after a Windows update. Try uninstalling the keyboard driver from Device Manager and then restarting. Windows usually reinstalls it automatically, and that fixed it for my Surface.

Check if your Surface firmware is fully up to date using Windows Update. Keyboard issues are sometimes tied to outdated UEFI or firmware components rather than the keyboard itself.

Classic Surface move. Works fine forever, then randomly decides it’s on vacation. 😅 In my case, cleaning the connector pins actually brought it back to life.

Ah yes, the premium detachable keyboard experience. Have you tried flipping it, reattaching it ten times, and whispering encouraging words to it?

I’m not super tech-savvy, but mine stopped working because tablet mode got weirdly stuck. Turning tablet mode off and on again helped somehow.

If it’s a Type Cover, test it on another Surface if possible. That’s the fastest way to tell whether it’s a device issue or the keyboard itself is failing.

Mine stopped responding randomly last year. Turned out lint had built up near the connector. Cleaned it gently with compressed air and it worked again.

Everyone jumps to drivers, but hardware is often the real culprit. These keyboards don’t last forever, especially if you detach them a lot.

Honestly, try a full shutdown (not restart), wait a minute, then boot it up again. Sounds basic, but it surprisingly fixes Surface keyboard glitches sometimes.
