Constant black blinking screen after Windows Update (v22H2)

I’m losing my mind here. I just finished a Windows update last night, and now every time I log into my desktop, I get a black blinking screen every 5-10 seconds. It’s like Windows Explorer is crashing and restarting constantly.

I can’t even click the Start menu because the taskbar disappears and reappears. I managed to get into Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del still works), but I’m not sure what to kill or restart. I’ve tried booting into Safe Mode and the blinking stops there, which makes me think it's a driver conflict.

Is anyone else experiencing this with the latest build? Should I just roll back the update or is there a specific driver (Nvidia maybe?) that’s causing this loop?

i had a similar issue recently, updating to the latest nvidia driver build did resolve the conflict and stop the black blinking screen. also try checking for any outdated firmware.

updating to the latest nvidia build seems to resolve the black blinking screen issue, also check for outdated firmware to prevent further conflicts.

latest nvidia driver updates often resolve similar conflicts, also checking for outdated firmware can help prevent further issues with windows updates.

recently in 2026, lots of users experienced black screen issues after windows updates, especially with nvidia drivers, so checking for updates or reinstalling the driver might help resolve the conflict.

i think the issue lies in the nvidia driver, as others have reported similar problems after windows updates, updating the driver to the latest build should fix the black blinking screen issue.

looking into the nvidia driver updates, it's likely a conflict with the windows update, specifically the v22H2 build, similar issues reported by users have been resolved by updating the nvidia drivers to the latest build.

i've found that sometimes updating the nvidia driver isn't enough, you also need to check for any pending windows updates to ensure the driver and os are fully compatible.

i'd recommend checking the system event logs for any specific error codes related to the nvidia driver crashes, this could help identify the root cause of the issue and potentially resolve the black blinking screen problem.
