Data error cyclic redundancy check

I was dragging some files to an external drive when I had been given an error of data error cyclic redundancy check. I have never encountered such and would not want to lose my data. Why does this happen and what can I do to rectify this without having to corrupt the files?

A cyclic redundancy check (CRC) error usually happens when a file or drive has corrupted data. It can occur due to bad sectors on the disk, a failing external drive, or issues during file transfer. To fix it, try running a disk check tool like chkdsk on Windows, copy the files in smaller batches, or use data recovery software if needed. Avoid writing new data to the drive until the issue is resolved to prevent further corruption.
