Does Instagram notify when you screenshot a DM of others?

Instagram does not notify someone if you screenshot regular DMs, stories, posts, or reels. But if you screenshot a disappearing photo or video sent in a DM, or a message in Vanish Mode, the sender will get a notification. So as long as you’re not capturing temporary messages, you can screenshot without the other person knowing.

No, Instagram doesn't notify users when you screenshot their direct messages (DMs), unless you're capturing a disappearing photo or video sent through Instagram's camera or using Vanish Mode. In these cases, the sender will be alerted if you take a screenshot .
For regular text messages or media saved to the chat, you can screenshot without the sender knowing.

Instagram does not send anyone a notification stating that you have screenshot an ordinary DM. Notifications of disappearing photos or videos that are shared in a DM are only issued. None of the frequent text, images, or posts in chat will alert to a screenshot.

Instagram does not inform users when they have screenshot their normal direct messages (DMs), posts, stories, or reels. But when you take a screen shot of a fading photo or video that is sent on DM with the View Once or the Allow Replay option, or when you are in Vanish Mode, the sender will be alerted.
Therefore, with conventional DMs, you are free to screenshot without drawing the attention of the other individual.
