How do I enable Instagram DM dark mode on Instagram?

Hey everyone, I’m trying to figure out how to enable Instagram DM dark mode on Instagram. I’ve checked the settings, but I can’t seem to find the option. Does anyone know the steps to turn on dark mode specifically for DMs?

Instagram's dark mode for DMs is usually tied to your phone’s system-wide settings. On both Android and iOS, you can enable dark mode in your device's "Display" settings, and Instagram will automatically switch. However, if you want to change it manually within the app, go to your profile, tap the three-line menu, select "Settings and Privacy," then "Accessibility," where you can toggle "Dark Mode" on.

To enable Instagram dark mode (including in Direct Messages) you usually need to turn on dark mode in your phone’s settings because Instagram follows your device theme: go to Settings → Display → Dark on Android or iOS. Once your phone is in dark mode, open Instagram and your DMs will appear dark too. If Instagram has its own “Theme” option, you can toggle Dark there.
