Is there any update on the Google Android cellular data lawsuit?

I’ve heard rumors about a class-action lawsuit regarding Google using background cellular data without permission. Does anyone have details on eligibility or current status?

The California case literally ended with a verdict last year but Google is already appealing the case and nobody is making money at this point. The Google Android cellular data lawsuit is still tied up in court because Google says those background transfers are just for system updates and security.

I believe that the California residents were the only ones who were eligible to get the big payout but the trial on the remaining 49 states is scheduled in April 2026. If you aren't in California you basically have to wait for the result of that second Google Android cellular data lawsuit.

You may be confused with the $700 million settlement of the Play Store where everyone gets some money automatically. The Google Android cellular data lawsuit is a different legal battle about phones using data while they are just sitting on your nightstand.

I read that the gurus in the court demonstrated that a Samsung phone was transmitting data of up to 9MB a day to Google even when not in use. That is why the Google Android cellular data lawsuit is such a big deal for people with limited data plans.

Don't expect a check anytime soon because Google is fighting the $314 million award in the California version of the Google Android cellular data lawsuit. According to them, the jury did not realize the way Android functions.

If you want to stay updated just search for the Csupo v Google case because that is the official name for the California Google Android cellular data lawsuit. The federal case which is nationwide will have a trial date in early 2026.

There is no claim form yet for the Google Android cellular data lawsuit so don't click on any random links saying you can get your money now. They are normally scams that attempt to take your information prior to the court authorising a payment plan.

A California jury in mid-2025 ruled Google must pay about $314 million to Android users after finding it misused their cellular data by transmitting information without consent, even when phones were idle. Google disagrees with the verdict and plans to appeal. A final settlement and claims process timeline hasn’t been released yet
